Thanks For Following...Sorry For Not Posting

Well, I haven't been on my blog, as you can see, all summer.  I was surprised to see my "follower" numbers increase!  I am hoping to post more now that the school year is starting up.  Thanks for following!

Now Sad For the BEGINNING of the Year!

So, I was very sad at the end of the school year....I had a GREAT group of kids, it was my best year teaching 5th grade!  School starts on August 16th and I found out last week that we are switching students for every class this year and still teaching every subject.  There are 10 5th grade teachers at my school and none of us is really sure why the change was made...no one even told us!  We found out by looking up our class lists on the computer last week.  I taught middle school before these past 3 years of teaching 5th grade.  I made the switch to 5th grade so that I could have one class of kids all day and that is being taken away from me!  I feel like everything I have done in the past 3 years to get my classroom running the way I like it is out the window!  I love forming the close relationships with the kids you get when you are with them all day long. I am truly sad about this change and this is the first year in my 12 years of teaching I do not want to go back.  Sorry to vent, but I am hoping someone out there feels my pain!...and can maybe offer some suggestions.  Thanks!

So Sad for the End of the Year!

We have about 2 and a half weeks left of the school year and I am so sad for it to end this year.  This is the best group of kids I have ever had...no behavior problems, they all get along, they are motivated!  I feel like we have really become a family.  I KNOW there are going to be tears shed the last day.  Has anyone ever felt like this at the end of the year?

My Weekly Newsletter

Here is a link to an example of my newsletter I send to my parents via email each week.

Thanks to ladybugteacherfiles for helping my out with this!  I would still like to know how to post a document without a link...I just want it to show up on my blog.  Any help would be appreciated!

Help!!

Maybe one of my 6 followers can help...I am trying to post a copy of some of the activities I do with my class on my blog and I can't figure it out.  I want to be able to post them directly onto my blog page, not as a link.  Can someone help me?  Thanks!

My Home Away From Home

Here are some pics of my home away from home.  I change it around every year...this is how it looks this year.
View of class from my desk.

View of front of class.

Class library...I had to get rid of the green and wood chair...fire hazard!

Our book check out system.

CAFE menu.

Student computers and mailboxes.

Student made class rules.

My corner...I've changed it around since this pic.  The kidney desk was used as small group.  Now I use it as my desk.  Might go back to using it for small group again...can't decide!

Close up of my corner.

This is on our door.  The kiddos check it before going to their lockers to see what books they need to bring home.

Our class cheer...we say it every morning.

Their ultimate goal...to "knock my socks off" with awesome work!

My behavior/reward system...punch cards.  These show them what they can turn their full cards in for.  LOVE this system!!

Newsletters

How many of you do a weekly newsletter?  I do!  I send them out through email and post them on my class website as well.  I have tweaked them a little each year.  Last year I put their spelling words on it, this year I did not.  I try to keep the info short and sweet...I always feel if it is too long, the parents won't read it.  I made my newsletter on Microsoft Publisher...so easy and I think it looks nice.  I have had many parents tell me they appreciate the info.  Take a look!

Taking the Plunge!!

I am a stalker of teacher blogs and one thing I have noticed is that there are not many blogs for upper elementary.  I decided to start one!  I'm not really sure what this blog will become, so I am looking for suggestions of things you would like to see as a upper elem. teacher.  It probably really wont get going until the summer or next school year, but I would like to start getting some ideas now!  So, WELCOME!  I hope this becomes a useful space for you.
